Aerial Surveys Ltd recently hosted engineers and surveyors from across the region at our hangar at Nelson Airport.

Arranged by the local Engineering New Zealand branch, the visit gave attendees a close-up look at ASL’s aircraft, camera systems and latest LiDAR technology.

The tour covered how aerial imagery and LiDAR are captured, the role of flight planning, accuracy, terrain, tides, sun angles and the many challenges of aerial survey in New Zealand.

Tony Lindbom, Director at Davis Ogilvie & Partners Ltd, summed it up well:

The visit to the hangar at Nelson Airport was very informative. It is amazing how far the technology has come in the aerial data collecting space. The new LiDAR equipment you have purchased, with the capabilities it has, is mind blowing.

It was a great opportunity to show how trusted aerial datasets support engineering, monitoring, planning and infrastructure decision-making. Thanks to everyone who came along — it was great to connect with the people who use the data we deliver extensively, and to show how it all comes together behind the scenes.
