Airborne Sensor Operator
Aerial surveys limited are seeking a Junior – Intermediate Airborne Sensor Operator to join our flight operations crew in Nelson. This position is part of a small group of sensor operators who operate our digital mapping cameras and LiDAR sensors.
The successful applicant will receive plenty of training in the use and operation of these sensors. The sensors are highly technical in nature and require a practical mind to be able to trouble shoot in the field away from base. The position will involve travel throughout NZ in our light aircraft, capturing data when weather permits. Our flying and capture is dictated largely by the weather so there will be occasions where crew will be based away from Nelson for periods of time. Due to the highly variable weather systems in NZ this position needs to be flexible including being available on weekends.
The ideal person needs to be
Practically minded with a strong technology interest and attention to detail
Have good IT skills for post processing of data, data storage and quality control. As the role progresses the actual processing of the data, once collected, will be integrated within the position.
Be comfortable working in light aircraft on a regular basis
GIS skills would be highly beneficial as a large amount of data is collected and the generation of maps will be required to keep track of the data.
An Interest in photography would be an advantage
Be a team player willing to always contribute with a “can do” attitude
